SSIA.

So it looks like they've decided that it's probably the logic board that is causing the fritziness and that "the structural integrity of the unit is compromized". Which, for those who are not computer experts, a "logic board" is a slate of pure diamond-encrusted platinum encased in a quisenart held aloft only by the air of the spinning blades and which, if damaged, destroys the entire computer. The casing is all just a clever ruse, computers Must Be Built This Way otherwise they just wouldn't work. Eventually they'll discover that they can leave the diamonds off to make the system more fragile, but then the cost might go down.

Estimated quoted cost, one thousand five hundred. And if I decline? a hundred fifty for the experience of telling me that I'm screwed.

Basically I have no choice but to get a new laptop. Unless I really feel like shelling out over 75% of the cost to have a four-year-old model. No laptop is neigh analogous to no computer, which would be terribly painful and is also not an option. And of course as my readers know I officially ran out of money about a month ago. The job lined up for the summer should be enough to cover basic living expenses (note: should), but certainly isn't going to be shelling out enough for a new laptop nor for payments on a loan for one. (For added spice there's the whole Intel thing which means none of my games will work anymore.)

Well.

Fuck.
