Interesting... thanks! I haven't studied Japanese really since high school (it was my foreign language then), but my dad does (as a hobby) and I will certainly recommend this to him. Personally I think the general idea sounds great except for not having pronunciations as well as meaning--as a somewhat auditory reader I hear the sounds of the words in my head, when I read, and I think for such a person, not doing so would dramatically slow the transition from thinking in English to thinking in Japanese; thus, it may be worthwhile to have pronunciations even if they more than double the time required for learning a given number of words.
