I find it interesting that 7 of those 20 are people, a category of interest which I've for the most part left off my list intentionally (though it does look like seven or so made it on so far). Redoing it with a higher ceiling (25k) I got 7 entirely different people, most of whom I'm already interested in (Kurt Vonnegut, Douglas Adams, Oscar Wilde, David Sederis, Terry Pratchett)-- come to think of it, everything on that second list I'm already interested in (though I've never indulged in pursuing Tolkien and Firefly beyond hearing others talk about them).
So it looks like I've been tagged again... So far as I can tell this means I should proclaim my dorkiness in five ways and then pass the condition on to five others by that "special" touch...
- It looks like I'll finally give in and get a cellphone. Once I do, not only will it have a netsuke on it (those little charms you see on Japanese cellphones), but I'll recieve the netsuke before the phone, and on the whole selecting the charm involved more thought than selecting the phone...
- I know far too much about the history of gaming consoles, particularly the sordid tale surrounding Sony's joining the market (and why M$ won't be able to do the same thing, much as they'd like to try). I also have an emulator for the good ol' Sega Master System-- yes, the one before the Genesis.
- As a kid I designed video games, including designing the mechanics, interface, power-ups, monsters,...
- As a kid I also designed a language. Now that I've grown up, I've turned my linguistic analysis on it and found that it's remarkably rule-governed but not structurally related to either English or Latin (kid languages, as a rule, are related to their native tongue(s)).
- In the few minutes since I discovered I got tagged I've gotten into a discussion on THAC0.
So, uh... alese,
